The Peppapeach Stripey is a striped variant of the Peppapeach, a lineage derived from the Sugar Rush Peach. The fruits ripen from green to peach, then develop orange-red stripes. Some peppers may retain their peach hue, while others turn red. Their fruity and sweet flavor is accompanied by less heat than its parent, the Sugar Rush Peach. The plants are vigorous and very productive, sometimes reaching a large size and requiring staking or caging. The story behind it: In 2012-2013, grower Chris Fowler discovered a round form of the Sugar Rush Peach in his crop, resulting from a natural genetic variation or an accidental cross, which he named Peppapeach. He shared the seeds with other growers, including Jim Duffy, who then passed them on to Matt Layton. The latter discovered a new striped variant and undertook several years of selection work, allowing the striped patterns to be stabilized.
