Little Dirty Chicken

Little Dirty Chicken is a recent and still poorly documented variety. It was given to us by Stefanie Engel from Germany, and in our cultivation, variegated variants naturally appeared from these seeds. For four years (2021), we have been conducting rigorous selection, keeping only the variegated plants to stabilize this exclusive line. Although stabilization is well underway, some seeds may still produce non-variegated plants. From the first leaves, it is possible to determine whether the plant will be variegated or not. The plant has an indeterminate, vigorous growth habit and is distinguished by very high productivity that lasts throughout the season. The variegated leaves are particularly striking. We have observed that variegation fades in full sun and reappears at the end of the season. In partial shade, it maintains its aesthetic throughout the growing period. The fruits are small and oval, resembling an egg, sometimes slightly flattened, yellow with subtle brown-rust speckles that clearly inspired its name. Their flesh is juicy, sweet, and very flavorful, offering remarkable taste quality that still makes it one of our favorite varieties today. Although our selection work has shaped this line, we chose to keep its original name, as this tomato perfectly represents the spirit and identity of our farm.
